The incident as reported many times on various news sources involved a disturbance at this bar wherein two of the supposed perps left the bar with one allegedly breaking out a window. They got in their car and were shot at by an "off duty" Omaha policeman working security.
Not only was one of them hit in the leg but the shots also went into houses or apartments down the street.
I am fairly sure that OPD procedures do not allow the discharge of a weapon in a case where no serious crime is involved and also where the person/officer is not in any danger.
Certainly the actions of this officer would be under serious consideration for breaking known city law if this had been a "normal" citizen. The possible deadly consequences of discharging firearms under these conditions, not only to the persons involved, but also to any poor bloke within several blocks or more of the discharge is way too much to have this dismissed by the public or by the courts.
This will not help communtiy relations between citizens and their "protectors".
