There is to be an action in Congress Wed or so that Pharma wants you to call Congress to shoot it down. Their latest ad claims most are against the concept that Medicare actually ought to hold out for the best prices. From my limited experience I have never found anyone that thinks Medicare should not negotiate the best price possible. Below is comment I made on the need to label clearly drugs and on the need to get the cheapest prices possible on drugs for Medicare. Call Congress and ask them to counter big Pharma's attempts to keep their golden egg.
Obviously drugs should be labeled as completely as possible with the true side effects and so forth. I'd like to point out that Pharma has taken out at least 6 full page ads in the Omaha World Herald alone against the concept that Medicare should actually negotiate for the best prices on drugs bought through that program. They spend countless millions trying to sell the idea that we should pay whatever they like w/o resort to the "Free" market at all. In addition, they are unfortunately allowed to advertise their drugs directly to the consumer at great expense. This has actually moved to the point that they make up diseases especially ones that can be treated with already cleared drugs such as so-called "restless leg syndrome". This allows huge profits for drugs that they can peddle w/o FDA clearance for the supposed use they advetise. Big Pharma has for years claimed these profits are needed for research purposes. Yet their advertising budgets, by far, overwhelm that spent on actual research. It is time to return the concept of "Truth in Advertising" especially in the drug industry which has been one of the critical contributors to the explosive inflation rates in the medical area, a rate that has for years been well over double that of the rest of the economy.
